Commemorating Lafayette’s Visit to the U.S.
Old Saybrook residents may be interested in knowing that the Marquis de Lafayette traveled through 24 states of the United States in 1824-25, including Saybrook where he spent the night at the Humphrey Pratt Tavern on Main Street.
Julien Icher, president of the Lafayette Trail, Inc., and formerly of the French Embassy in Boston, is identifying and visiting places where Lafayette stayed and preparing special programs for the observance of the 200th anniversary of Lafayette’s visit.
He recently interviewed Philippe Etienne, Ambassador of France to the U.S., to discover his thoughts on Lafayette’s significance to the U.S. Julien has sent a link to a brief video of his visit with the Ambassador. It can be seen here:
