2015 Lion Gardiner Ornament

The 2015 tree ornament presented by the Society was a likeness of Lieutenant Lion Gardiner, the engineer who was hired by the original English patentees to lay out a town befitting of the gentlemen who were to call the Saybrook Plantation their new homes. Gardiner established the Saybrook Point “fort” and town, but only one of the fifteen patentees ever came “across the pond”. That was Colonel George Fenwick. It is Colonel Fenwick’s wife, Lady Alice Fenwick, that is buried in Saybrook’s Cypress Cemetery on College Street.
