Indenture of Elizabeth Stannard to Stephen Chalker

This Indenture Witnesseth, that I Elisha Sill of Saybrook in the County of Middlesex, in the State of Connecticut, having been appointed by the Hon Court of probate guardian, to Elisabeth Stannard Daughter of James and Elisabeth Stannard Deceased, do by these presents, put place and Bind out Said Elisabeth, unto Stephen Chalker of Said Saybrook with him to live, and faithfully to Serve, from the Date hereof, until She Shall arrive at the age of Eighteen years, Which will be on the 18th day of August AD 1824 all which time, She the Said Elisabeth, herSaid Master faithfully Shall Serve, and Shall obey all his Lawful commands, and the Said Stephen Chalker doth Covenant and agree With the Said Elisha Sill, that he will provide for the Said Elisabeth Sufficient meat, drink, Washing, lodging, clothing and physic during Said term; and also to learn her the art of Spining and house work, and furthermore to learn the said Elisabeth to read, and write a Deacant hand, and at the End of said term, to dismiss said Elisabeth, and giver her two good Suits of Cloaths, one suitable for common weare the other suitable for holy-day, also a Bible —

For the faithful performance of which, the parties have herunto set their hands and seals this 17th day of January AD 1814
