Volunteer Opportunities

The Old Saybrook Historical Society is an all-volunteer organization.

Do you like history, genealogy, being with people or all of the above? If so, you are invited to contribute your valuable time and energies and/or ideas to our all-volunteer organization. You are needed!  Opportunities are for annual events or on-going on a weekly basis. Even though we have many dedicated people there is always room for more.

Some of the many opportunities available:

  • Archives – Computer Skills
Cataloging, data entry, tech help with website and computer network, research and writing articles for newsletter, historical and genealogical research for visitors as well as on-line queries, transcribing, and more. The Archives and Library are open year round on Tuesday and Thursday mornings 9-12, or by appointment.
  • Ways and Means – Fundraising
  • House Tour Guide
  • Hospitality
  • Gardens
The Garden Committee continues to create a place of beauty to frame the Hart House and Archives Building. Plan, promote and maintain colonial plantings of the period 1767-1820. The “Bottoms-Up Club” meets one morning a week from April (weather permitting) through October. The Garden Committee always needs new gardeners!
  • Public Relations
  • Special Events

VOLUNTEERS MAKE OUR WORLD GO ROUND

Some are behind-the-scenes and others are out front, but it takes a heap of volunteers to run an organization like the Old Saybrook Historical Society.

These unsung heroes do everything from repairing rope beds to restoring garden beds, move books to maintain files, record and research documents, respond to questions and happily welcome visitors.

Here, on one day in May, we ‘captured’ just a few of the many valuable volunteers who help preserve, protect and promote the history of Old Saybrook.

If you wish to join this friendly group of dedicated volunteers, contact us by calling 860-395-1635.
