May 26, 2020
NASHVILLE, TN. The American Association for State and Local History (AASLH) proudly announces that the Old Saybrook Historical Society is the recipient of its 2020 Award of Excellence for the Society’s two-year project on “The Siege and Battles of Saybrook Fort and the Pequot War.”

The announcement was made by Bethany Hawkins, AASLH Chief of Operations.

The award-winning program developed by the Old Saybrook Historical Society produced a brochure, interpretative markers, a publication and a variety of other resources to promote understanding of the Siege and Battle of Saybrook Fort and the Pequot War, 1636-1637

The project was funded by the National Park Service, American Battlefield Protection Program, with additional support from CT Humanities.

The AASLH Leadership in History Awards, now in its 75th year, is the most prestigious recognition for achievement in the preservation and interpretation of state and local history. Its purpose is to encourage standards of excellence in the collection, preservation, and interpretation of state and local history throughout the United States.

The award is typically presented during the AASLH Annual Meeting, this year in September in Las Vegas. However, due to the current pandemic the meeting will likely not occur and details regarding the presentation will be announced at a later date.
