The Old Saybrook Historical Society has perhaps the finest portrait of the town’s unlikely founder, John Winthrop the Younger (1606-1676). The painting is more historically accurate than the original oil portrait of him painted in England in the 1600s. That portrait now hangs in the Harvard Art Museum in Boston.
